In 1908 St. Barnabas Senior Services opened its doors in Los Angeles, California. Over 100 years later, St. Barnabas is thriving as a dynamic nonsectarian, nonprofit organization that is widely recognized for its innovative programs. What If You Could Live to 100 and Still Feel Fabulous?

Ever wonder why some people live to 100 but look and feel decades younger? Join us on June 7th at Lessons on Longevity, a series to inform, engage and enlighten on the topic of aging, to learn how to age better and live longer from the world-renowned Super Ager gene spotter, Dr. Nir Barzilai. Dr. Barzilai, Director of the Institute for Aging at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, conducted genetic research on more than 500 healthy people between the ages of 95 and 112 to understand the secret to aging well and living long. Local Care For Seniors at St Barnabas

Many Hancock Park area residents are members of the Sandwich Generation – pressed together like a hot panini with the needs of our aging parents melting down from the top slice, and our growing children putting on the heat from below. Windsor Square resident Linda Myerson Dean was facing just this situation a few years ago when her elderly mother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease proved difficult for the entire family.

They didn’t want to move her out of her comfortable home, nor away from her loving husband. So Linda did what all good children do, she went on an exhaustive search to find a solution. Fortunately, she found a good one: St. Barnabas Senior Services (SBSS.) St. Barnabas Senior Services Continues to Make an Impact Amidst Budget Battle

In the courtyard garden of the St. Barnabas S. Mark Taper Adult Day Health Care Center stands a beautiful tree. Lusine Nalbandyan, the director of Adult Day Care Services, remembers when, not long ago, the tree was dried and shriveled appearing to all onlookers to be dead. Nalbandyan, inspired by a gut feeling, did not allow the tree to be cut down. With some nurturing, the tree was revived. It stands today, lively and green, in the beautiful garden for all to enjoy.

Like the tree, many people who come through the doors of the St. Barnabas Day Care program have felt the years wear upon them. Some live with debilitating disabilities. Some have psychological disorders. Like the tree, they are nurtured each day...Read More
